Biography

JOAN SUREDA PASTOR

 

He was born in Mallorca and began his piano studies at the age of 8 at the music school of Sta. Margalida with the teacher Diana Miguel de Lauzón. That same year he took the entrance exam to the Conservatory obtaining the highest qualification.


Subsequently, he completed the Middle Grade studies with the teacher Juana María Heredia, finishing at age 16 with the highest grade and Honorable Mention. For years he has perfected his studies with the Polish professor Ireneusz Jagla. At the same time, he attends the compulsory studies and the baccalaureate ending with Matriculation of Honor. He finished the Higher Degree in the specialty of piano at the Superior Conservatory of the Balearic Islands, obtaining the extraordinary end-of-degree award under the tutelage of Miquel Estelrich and Manuel Carra. Currently, he is taking piano improvement courses at an international level with Nelson Delle-Vigne and Antonio Galera.


He has received advice from professors such as Iván Citera, Roberto Bravo, Andrej Jasinski, Philippe Entremont, Chin Chuan Chang, Roberto Plano, Susan Shu-Chen Lin, Marina Scalafiotti ...


He was awarded first prize at the Rotaract International Competition in 2003. In 2005 he was a finalist with the Al Libitum string quartet at the Art Jove Competition. In 2006 he accompanied the flutist María Margarita Seguí on behalf of the Autonomous Community at the Intercentros Contest in Madrid. In 2012 he was awarded the first prize of the "Rafael Nadal" Musical and Literary Contest in category A for piano.


He has performed concerts as a soloist or member of chamber music groups at the Palma Auditorium, the Principal Theater and many other venues in Mallorca. He has accompanied the Pro Música Chorus de Sóller choir in Karlsrühe (Germany) as well as performed solo pieces outside of Spain. He has also worked with various orchestras such as the Symphonic Orchestra of the Superior Conservatory of the Balearic Islands and the City of Palma Symphony Orchestra with which he premiered several works and highlights the Fantasy for piano and orchestra by Javier Martí. He has played the role of first piano in the play Carmina Burana, has played a musician-actor in the show "Arepó", the music incidental to the production of the Teatro Principal de Don Juan Tenorio and the continuum in the project "Come to sing the Messiah".


In 2005 he recorded a CD with several students from IES Sta. Margalida under the direction of Roberto Gontan and in 2009 he collaborated with the Ciudad de Palma Symphony Orchestra on the recording of the Suite Popular Mallorquina by Jaume Mas Porcel.


He combines his artistic work with teaching at the conservatories of Ibiza, Menorca and Mallorca, he is the coordinator of the Chopin Chair in Valldemossa.

 

He is currently a tenured professor at the professional conservatory of Menorca.
